Belarus' police interested in closer contacts with UN Office on Drugs and Crime

The Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs would like to strengthen cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). This information was posted on the website of the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs following the visit of UNODC Executive Director with the rank of Under-Secretary-General Yury Fedotov, BelTA has learned.

Belarusian Internal Affairs Minister Igor Shunevich noted that the ministry is satisfied with its cooperation with the UNODC and would like to scale up contacts. Belarus' extensive experience allows it to efficiently respond to illegal drug trade, trafficking in human beings, organized crime, thus making a contribution to stability and security in Europe. He stated that Belarus is open for an international dialogue and is ready to share its best practices with interested partners. In this regard, Igor Shunevich thanked the UNODC for comprehensive support for Belarus' anti-drug initiatives and its expert and technical assistance.

Igor Shunevich emphasized that Belarus invests great efforts in combating human trafficking and raising awareness of this issue on a global scale. To make these efforts more efficient the country invites the UNODC to arrange joint events on combating trafficking, pedophilia and child pornography.

Yury Fedotov praised Belarus' active stance and leadership and suggested ways to ramp up partner relations in the matters that are within the UNODC mandate.
